I was playing in LR to see if I could fix up this image (The proper LP Version can be found here), which is quite frankly awful and probably should be a throw away, but I thought it was worth some play time.
Firstly I dropped the exposure, just a little at a time, then added several graduated filters and radial filters to drop back the highlights, I also pulled the shadows down a little. Then I opened in Photoshop and added a graduated filter diagonally across, on separate layers from first Black to Clear and then Black to Blue and then added a Gaussian Blur, dropped the blending mode to soft light and luminosity (respectively) to add a filtered light across the flowers from the window.
Not perfect, but it does show, that using a little at a time and making small adjustments, sometimes you can fix an image you thought was lost.
