My Creative Journey – Week 7

Hello,

ephemera

noun

1.things that exist or are used or enjoyed for only a short time.

“there were papers, letters, old boxes—all sorts of ephemera”

2. collectable items that were originally expected to have only short-term usefulness or popularity. “Mickey Mouse ephemera”

Exploring Ephemera…

The art of still life and styling starts long before we press that shutter button…What do you enjoy the most; the gather, the shoot or the edit? I love a good gather, I even have a special basket I use to collect all the bits and pieces (I have learned that I say this A LOT! – apologies), I want for my image. I find it so relaxing……almost zen type meditation putting it all together, this week we are going to look for some slightly more unusual and personal stuff…ENJOY…Someone has already done this a few weeks backs with some sewing items – patterns, scissors and the like (see below). I am sure a few of you may connect with this style of Still Life, and it does NOT have to be old stuff either, got a hobby? Use it! Stamps, coins, sewing, gardening, cooking…need I go on?

The Challenge…

This week I am leaving HOW you shoot entirely up to you, shoot top down, flat lay, straight on, side lit, light and bright, dark and moody. It’s entirely up to you, but try and get creative and add different sorts of ephemera; old books or letters, old newspaper or collector cards, bits of string or ribbon, old postcards (or new), it does not have to be old, or what about stamps or old photos, the list truly is endless. Try searching for images and photos in Pinterest using the phrase Ephemera Photography.
